This week in Ethiopian history January 21-27

• 25 January 1887 - Ethiopian forces led by Ras Alula annihilated Italian troops & their askaris at Dogali near Masawa seaport.
• 21 January 1872 - Kassa Mircha, a Tigrean Chief was crowned King of Kings of Ethiopia as Atse Yohannes IV by Abuna Atnatyos in a ceremony held at Axum Tsion Maryam Church following ancient rituals last used for Fasilides in 1632.
• On January 21st 1962, Ethiopian National Football Team won the 3rd African Cup of Nations, the only major trophy won in Ethiopian football history. The picture below shows Captain of the Ethiopian National Team receiving the Cup from HIM Atse Haile Selassie.
